Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Nursery and Reception Classes

In our Early Years class, we strive to provide a strong foundation for every child’s education and we warmly welcome parents to share in this learning journey.  It is our aim to ensure that every child’s first experience of school life is a happy and positive one.  We are committed to developing in each child a love of learning, a place where they are able to develop intellectually, socially, physical and emotionally so that they become independent, enthusiastic learners.

Our Early Years class provides a broad and balanced curriculum based on the children’s interests.  Adult-led teaching is followed by child-initiated activities so that our pupils are given every opportunity to consolidate their learning in a way that is meaningful to them.  We undertake continuous, rigorous assessment through observations and work samples.  This allows us to identify the next step in each child’s learning to ensure that every child reaches his or her potential.

Our Early Years class is committed to developing the characteristics of effective learning and promotes how to learn through playing, exploring, active learning and thinking critically.  We understand that children develop these skills in a stimulating and engaging environment where they have ownership of their surroundings and are free to explore, play and learn safely.

Our Early Years setting is now open in the afternoons for nursery children ages two to four.  The very youngest children in our school benefit from very high adult-to-child ratios and a rich and nurturing environment.
