Mastery, fluency and reasoning are just a few of the key words we now associate with our maths lessons.  Pupils are working at a deeper level, strengthening their knowledge and understanding of concepts before they move on to age-related topics and skills.

With the support of our Maths Subject lead, our teachers plan challenging lessons in which the pupils consolidate their knowledge and refine their skills as well as build resilience and patience through problems solving and reasoning.

Practical maths, using manipulatives, is the way in which we teach the children a new topic.  Until they have grasped the concept practically, we do not move on to the abstract.  Our books are not just full of written calculations but show a wide range of engaging activities.  Our class challenge areas offer a variety of tasks that extend the pupils knowledge and understanding once they have finished their class tasks.
